Purple Edges at Lavender Hill Farm

Lavender Hill Farm is located on the outskirts of famous culinary and wine town, Franschhoek. Just 90 minutes outside Cape Town, South Africa, this is the perfect location for couples, groups of friends or extended families to enjoy a weekend away in the wine valley. Mr John and I joined our friends for a night away at the beautiful venue, here’s what we found:

Lavender Hill Farm Accommodation Options

The Lavender Hill Farm offers space for up to 28 guests, spread across a number of room types including honeymoon suites, lavender field view suites, regular suites and manor suites. The bulk of the rooms surround the central lawn, rolling towards the lavender fields. We stayed in a honeymoon suite near reception.

My Six “C” Review

My 6 “C’s” refer to the 6 elements that influence my comfort level while staying at a hotel. This includes, in no particular order, Charging Stations, Comfortable Bed, Cleanliness, Counter Space, Connectivity and Conveniences. Here’s how the Lavender Hill Farm fared:

Charging Stations

As a vlogger and photographer, it’s important to us to have enough space for our technology to be laid out in an efficient setup. Our Lavender Hill Farm suite had a large coffee table, which allowed us to keep our things off the floor, as well as a desk. The desk was used to charge our batteries, but it was rather slim so we used our computers on the couch (very comfy). Unfortunately, there were no plug points next to the bed so we weren’t able to use our phones at night. 2/5

Comfortable Bed

The bed in our honeymoon suite was excellent thanks to the size and firm mattress. Mr John and I are tall/big people who like to be together, but we also like our own space and temperatures. Mr John could sleep cool while I snugged under the extra blankets and pillows. I slept very, very well. 5/5

Cleanliness

We arrived early (check-in is only at 2pm) and entered our room before it was fully prepared for us. We were warned, but wanted to leave our bags in the room and not in the car while on the wine tram. Having seen the before and after, I can vouch that our suite was SPOTLESS. There were no traces of past guests, a MUST for me. Lavender Hill did not disappoint. 5/5

Counter Space

This refers to the bathroom counter space where I can place my toiletries and makeup. There was enough space for my toiletries, but not oodles of space to layout my makeup. I can see the hotel has made an effort to increase the space as they had an extra table behind the door, however, it was a little short. 3/5

Connectivity

Honestly, I wasn’t paying much attention to this as we were with a group of friends and I did NO work while at Lavender Hill Farm. However, wifi is available and served the purpose for our visit. 3/5

Conveniences

The honeymoon suites at Lavender Hill Farm offer many conveniences. There is a welcome book/manual with information about the venue, which I always enjoy because it give extra information like breakfast hours, wifi code, etc.

The room included tea and coffee facilities, a large “stretcher” to put our luggage on, a large TV unit with a remote control (that worked) as well as a shower, but no bath. There was also a safe discretely placed inside the bedroom cupboard.

The pool is also a pretty feature of the hotel. Laid outside the reception, pool chairs line the turquoise grey. I’m sure this is wonderful during summer. There is also a dam at the back (front?!) of the property that offers the most beautiful sunsets, WOW!

Garden chairs and benches offer a resting place in communal areas, with lights swinging in the trees. The pathways are also lit and covered which is useful during the winter months. Pathways are also tiled for easy suitcase transportation.

The hotel breakfast is also a good breakfast spread with delicious cooked breakfasts. The staff were friendly, attentive and well trained which made having any queries solved easily.

Final Impression

Lavender Hill Farm is a wonderful place to stay because it has been constructed in a thoughtful manner. For example, wild sage lines the gardens and cottages not lavender. I love this as the smell of lavender can become quite overwhelming. This way, the purple “feeling” of lavender is reinforced without overwhelming guests.

I’d happily return to the Lavender Hill Farm. Prices start from R1325 per room (single) or R2800 per room (double) per night, depending on low/high season. Children under 2 stay for free, while children aged 3 – 18 are at an additional R275 fee.

Thank you to Lavender Hill farm for having us!

Safe travels and don’t forget, “Got the passports?”
