Celebrating Spring at the Franschhoek Boutique Hotel
I’m tired and I’m not feeling well. Simultaneously, it’s also spring! And the dark green colour of our room in the Franschhoek Boutique Hotel is keeping my spirits teetering on hopeful.
We have friends arriving in the morning to join us for the Franschhoek Wine Tram and I’d love nothing more than to feel well and enjoy the day after months of the Cape of Storms.
I climb into bed and absorb being surrounded by my favourite colour. I’ve heard that magazine covers with women wearing green dresses sell the least well, consistently. I ignore this titbit of pop culture and enjoy the suite.
This hotel suite is comfortable, pleasing on the eye and optimistic with its tasteful jungle wall prints. Green can be done right, especially at the Franschhoek Boutique Hotel where each of the 12 rooms are individually decorated and celebrated for their unique palettes.
Spring Weekends in Franschhoek
Positioned in the centre of town, the Franschhoek Boutique Hotel is one of the few hotels located in the heart of the famous wine-producing town. The duplex building provides small, yet comfortable accommodation for visitors looking to avoid driving out of town after dark.
The ground floor centres around a reception area and dining room, while the suites are located on the second floor providing pleasant town views across the valley.
Cosy Themed Suites
The suites are very comfortably kitted out for couples staying in the valley. With a small kitchenette, which includes a wine fridge, coffee making station and crockery, and a suite that includes a fireplace, USB bedside plugs, safe and decent wifi reception, there’s not much more one requires to enjoy a stay between sleeping and wine tastings.
The sliding bathroom doors onto the bedroom is a creative way to increase the suite size, while providing enough privacy when closed. Alternatively, slide it all the way open and enjoy watching movies from the tub!
Wine Tram Hotel Stop
What makes the Franschhoek Boutique Hotel really convenient is their delicious cooked breakfasts and location to the wine tram. Start the day with a good, solid continental or cooked breakfast before making your way onto the Franschhoek Wine Tram, which is located (literally) outside the hotel’s front door. Jump onto the tram to spend the day visiting some of Franschhoek’s most well-known wineries.
Final Thoughts
Because we’d gone wine tasting during the day, we ended up heading out for dinner with our friends and extending the day into evening. Knowing we were staying in the centre of town meant walking anywhere was super safe and simple.
Sadly, I almost regretted going out for as long as we did as the suite really is very comfortable and spending a bit more time getting better wouldn’t have been amiss. Having said that, who can turn down a great spring night out in Franschhoek with friends? Not many.
We had a wonderful stay at the Franschhoek Boutique Hotel and would be happy to recommend it to both local and international travelers alike. The rates do vary, depending on the season. Use it for a central, romantic wintery mini break or as a excellent, central location for guests to South Africa.
