Winter officially starts on the 21st of June in South Africa, but Cape Town loves to get ahead of the curve and start sharing their local specials for the chilly season. While there are dozens of offers, we’ve focused on the restaurants we’d personally invest our own salaries into visiting.
*Please note, not all specials have been released. This post is a work in progress. Please return to find more specials as soon as the restaurants release them throughout winter. Thank you!
Restaurant Winter Specials 2023
While all of these restaurants offer a fantastic meal, I’ve placed them in the order of the experiences I enjoyed the most to the least. That does not mean the last aren’t worth visiting! On the contrary – Cape Town’s food scene is highly competitive and these are the meals that stood out the longest, for me.
La Colombe (Constantia)
Perched high up on the Constantia mountains lies the Silvermist Estate, home to La Colombe. Currently 56 on the World’s Top 50 Restaurants, take advantage of this special while you can.
- Where: Silvermist Constantia
- When: 8th May – 31st August 2023
- Why: Lunch from Monday to Friday.
- What: R995 for 8 course menu + 12.5% tip. Total = R1 120 (drinks excluded).

Foxcroft (Constantia)
Foxcroft is an understated suburban restaurant found in High Constantia, a shopping “centre” on the road. It serves some of the best food I’ve had and I can’t personally wait to return!
- Where: High Constantia
- When: 8th May – 31st August 2023
- Why: Lunch from Monday to Sunday only.
- What: 4 course menu for R595 (+ 13% Tip & Drink costs)

Upper Union (Tamboerskloof)
Bridging the gap between the ever bustling Kloof street and Kloof Nek road, Upper Union neighbours Cape Town’s award winning Cape Cadogan Boutique Hotel as their sister venture.

- When: June – 31st August 2023
- Why: Lunch from Monday to Friday.
- What: R225 for bread course + 2 plates + tip. Total = R260
Grub & Vine (City Bowl)
Chef Matt Manning is the picture of reslience when it came to surviving the pandemic. Tenacious, he recalibrated again and again and again to ensure the survival of his restaurant Grub & Vine. It’s stood him well as he and his team earned award after award as the restrictions eased. Visited this city restaurant for their lunch time winter special:
- Where: Bree street in the CBD.
- When: 1st May – 31st May 2023
- Why: Lunch (Mon – Sat from 12pm – 7pm).
- What: R295 for a main and glass of wine.
Homespun at the Andros (Claremont)
Homespun by Matt has put many a smile on the resident of Claremont. Usually a suburb more closely associated with takeout and small eateries, Homespun has become a favourite on the hillside.
- Where: Claremont
- When: 1st May – 31st May 2023
- Why: Lunch (Sat & Sun from 12 – 4pm) and dinner (Tues – Sat from 5:30pm – 11pm)

Tryn at Steenberg (Tokai)
Sister restaurant to Sixteen82, Tryn at the Steenberg golf estate offers beautiful vineyard views and chic art decor interiors. Enjoy their lunch or dinner specials:
