City Slicker’s Guide to Winter Specials for Cape Town Restaurants in 2024

The wintery weather has arrived and with it, the best restaurant specials in the Mother City. Considering La Colombe just won 49th place in the Best Restaurants in the World list, get booking before it’s too late!

Restaurant Winter Specials 2024

While all of these restaurants offer a fantastic meal, I’ve placed them in the order of the experiences I enjoyed the most to the least. That does not mean the last aren’t worth visiting! On the contrary – Cape Town’s food scene is highly competitive and these are the meals that stood out the longest, for me.

Potluck Club (Woodstock)

Positioned along the old grain silo, Luke Dale Roberts’ Potluck Club offers beautiful views across the city towards Table Mountain and is a favourite for many Capetonians.

• When: May to 31st Oct 2024
• Why: 5 Course Lunch from Monday to Sunday.
• Roosterkoek served with Whipped Butter, Babaganoush, Harissa, Garlic, Marinated Olives.
• Fish Sliders dressed with Mojo Dressing and Miso Mayo.
• Smoked Beef Fillet with Black Pepper & Truffle Café au Lait.
• Chickpea, Goats Cheese and Parmesan Fries served with Truffle Aioli & Smoked Ketchup.
• PLC Sweets Board with Nougat, Salted Chocolate Caramel, Macaroon and Mochi.
• What: R495pp excl. tip & drinks.

La Colombe (Constantia)

Perched high up on the Constantia mountains lies the Silvermist Estate, home to La Colombe. Currently 56 on the World’s Top 50 Restaurants, take advantage of this special while you can.

• Where: Silvermist Constantia
• When: 3rd June – 31st August 2024
• Why: Lunch from Monday to Friday.
• What: R1095 for 8 course menu + 13.5% tip. Total = R1 243 (drinks excluded).

Salon (Woodstock)

A new multi-course dining journey by Luke Dale Roberts, the culinary visionary behind the renowned restaurant, The Test Kitchen.

• Where: Old Biscuit Mill, Woodstock
• When: June to 31st October 2024
• Why: Lunch & Dinner
• What: 6 Courses for R795 per person.

Foxcroft (Constantia)

Foxcroft is an understated restaurant found in High Constantia, a small shopping “centre”. I returned for my birthday this year and definitely feel it’s one of the best winter specials available :

• Where: High Constantia
• When: 22nd April – 31st August 2024
• Why: Lunch or from Monday to Sunday only.
• What: LUNCH: 4 course menu for R495 + 13% Tip = R560 excl drinks. DINNER = R786.

Grub & Vine (City Bowl)

Chef Matt Manning was the picture of resilience during the pandemic, pivoting time and time again to ensure the survival of his restaurant Grub & Vine. This stood him well as his brand earned multiple awards post-pandemic, elevating the small bistro to celebrity status.

• Where: Bree street in the CBD.
• When: 1st May – August 2024
• Why: Menu of the Day
• What: R355 for canape, starter and main excl tip and drinks.

Mantra Cafe (Camps Bay)

Mantra Cafe is one of the top restaurants in Camps Bay, a neighbourhood beloved for its views, but not necessarily value for money nor quality. Mantra Cafe is one of the exceptions.

• Where: Camps Bay Main Road
• When: Until 31st of August 2024
• Why: Set winter menu for R350 per person.
• What: AND 20% off all lunch & dinner bookings (over and above the winter special).

Homespun at the Andros (Claremont)

Homespun by Matt has put many a smile on the resident of Claremont. Usually a suburb more closely associated with takeout and small eateries, Homespun has become a favourite on the hillside.

• Where: Claremont
• When: 1st May – 31st May 2024
• Why: Lunch (Sat & Sun from 12 – 4pm) and dinner (Tues – Sat from 5:30pm – 11pm)
• What: R795 for 8 course menu excluding tip.

Faber (Paarl)

Faber at Avondale has been a respected restaurant within the winelands for quite some time. Set on a rustic estate in Paarl, this is their winter special:

• Where: Fabre at Avondale, Paarl
• When: Until 31st August 2024, lunch or dinner from Wednesday to Sunday.
• Why: 2 course meal for R395 per person.
• What: A slice of freshly baked sourdough bread, pumpkin fritters, a choice between 2 mains and 2 desserts and a side of fries.

Beyond at Buitenverwaghting (Constantia)

Beyond was created under Peter Templehoff’s bouquet of restaurants and continues to deliver excellent food at the Constantia wine estate. Their winter special:

• Where: Buitenverwaghting in Constantia.
• When: Until 31st August 2024 for lunch or dinner.
• Why: 3 courses with Chefs surprise course: R595.
• What: Plus 12.5% tip to be added.

Tryn at Steenberg (Tokai)

Sister restaurant to Sixteen82, Tryn at the Steenberg golf estate offers beautiful vineyard views and chic art decor interiors. Enjoy their lunch or dinner specials:

• Where: Steenberg Wine Estate, Tokai
• When: June – 30th September 2023
• Why: Lunch or Dinner special from Mondays to Sundays.
• What: 3 courses & chocolate truffles = R580
• Alternatively, try the Date Night special. R875 per couple for 2 courses each.

Protege Restaurant

Protege Restaurant is part of the La Colombe group and is positioned in Franschhhoek.

• Where: Huguenot Street, Franschhoek

• Why: Lunch from Monday to Sunday
• What: 4 Course lunch for R595pp + 13% Tip = R673 excl drinks.

Fyn

Decently ranked 60 by the World’s 50 Best Restaurant Awards, FYN is one of Cape Town’s most awarded restaurants and are offering a lunch special this autumn.

• Where: 5th Floor, Speakers Corner, 37 Parliament Str, Cape Town.
• When: Today until 31st August 2024.
• Why: Lunch only from Monday to Friday.
• What: 6 Course lunch for R895pp + 12.5% Tip, excl drinks.

Salsify at the Roundhouse (Camps Bay)

Salsify really is a hidden gem as everyone focuses on the much less impressive food of Lawns at the Roundhouse when Salsify has been winning awards for years!

The Waterside Restaurant is located in the V&A Waterfront and is part of the La Colombe group.

Eleven Restaurant

Eleven Restaurant presents a global fusion of flavours based on seasonal ingredients.

• Where: 11 Hugenot Road, Franschhoek
• When: Winter (no end date currently available).
• Why: Lunch Special
• What: 8 Course Winter Tasting Menu for R800pp.

Pier

Pier is located in the V&A Waterfront and is part of the La Colombe Group.

EPICE

Epice is part of the La Colombe Group and is located in Franschhoek.
