Passenger growth at Cape Town International Airport continues, with both the domestic and international passenger terminals recording positive monthly and year-to-date increases. 

The domestic terminal recorded a 25% year-on-year growth for the month of July, with over 570 000 passengers moving through the terminal.

The international terminal saw a 34% year-on-year growth in July, with over 200 000 passengers moving through the terminal.

CTAA Team welcomes Proflight Zambia

The Cape Town Air Access team welcomed Proflight Zambia’s inaugural flight from Lusaka to Cape Town on 1 July.

Opening up several destinations in Zambia for travelers departing from Cape Town, the service will operate twice weekly on Tuesdays and Saturdays on the carrier’s 50-seater Bombardier CRJ jet, with a flight time of 3 hours and 15 minutes.

Lusaka is the largest unserved market for Cape Town in Southern Africa with over 23 000 two-way passengers recorded in 2019.

SAA’s First ever Direct, Non-Stop Service from Cape Town to São Paulo 

South African Airways will commence a non-stop flight between CPT and São Paulo, Brazil on 31 October 2023, with two frequencies per week. 

  • São Paulo was identified as the biggest unserved market with the fastest growth for Cape Town and the Western Cape in 2019, prior to the onset of the pandemic.
  • In 2019, 43 000 two-way passengers were recorded to have travelled between the two regions, with passenger growth equating to an impressive 26% average growth per year between 2015 and 2019.

The introduction of this new route marks a momentous occasion as the airline returns to Cape Town with its inaugural intercontinental flight after an 11-year hiatus.

New Seasonal Flights to Mauritius

Air Mauritius will be adding an additional frequency on its Mauritius – CPT route, increasing from two to three flights per week from 28 November 2023 to 29 March 2024.

Increased Flights to Paris in 2024

Air France will increase frequencies on its Paris, CDG – CPT route from three to five times per week from 17 January to 27 February 2024.

Extra Flights to Kenya

As of 1 August, Kenya Airways added an additional frequency on its Nairobi – CPT route, increasing to three weekly flights. The service will be operated on a Boeing 787-8. 

Extra Flights to Frankfurt

Condor will increase frequencies on its seasonal Frankfurt – CPT service from three to five weekly flights starting 30 September.

Season Flights from Zurich to Cape Town

Edelweiss will operate four frequencies per week on its seasonal Zurich – CPT service starting 31 August. The carrier will also operate an extended season from 31 August 2023 – 31 May 2024. 

New Flights to Walvis Bay (Donkey Bay in Namibia) This October

FlyNamiba will commence a new service between CPT and Walvis Bay. The route will operate four frequencies per week starting 27 October 2023.
